Friday mornings in Kindergarten this year are Fairytale Fridays. At the beginning of the year parents signed up for the Fairytale of their choice to share with the class along with a fun activity that went along with the book. Our favorite fairy tale is The Princess and The Pea. When Shad was in high school he played the part of Prince Dauntless in Once Upon a Mattress and got rave reviews for his role. He wore a pageboy wig and TIGHTS! Shad had the skinniest birdlegs you can imagine. He has fond memories of this show and I think that may be one of the reason our family loves this story so much. Anyway, I took in our "well loved copy" and read it to the kids. I then taught them to curtsy and bow like royalty. It was fun. Next I had brought in a tiny ball about the size of a pea and had the kids put in under 4 of our couch pillows. They took turns seeing if they could feel the pea and if they were true Princes and Princesses. Each child had a different way of getting on the pillows. Most of them jumped stomach first on top. Some sat down and some rolled off but I think all had fun! It was fun to be able to go do this for Paige's class. In the end only 8 of the kids said they could feel the pea....and I don't think Paige was one of them.....hmmmm.
